At Orchid Dental, our goal is to make quality dental services available to as many people as possible. We believe that finances should never be a barrier to accessing dental care, which is why we accept a wide range of dental insurance plans. Our dental clinic accepts all traditional insurance plans, and we are also on the list for Delta Dental Premier dentists.
We also understand that many people do not have dental coverage and even for those that do, many dental insurances are limited in the types of procedures covered. For patients without dental insurance or for uncovered dental procedures, we also offer low or no interest financing through Care Credit.
Insurance plans are often complex with technical verbiage and obscure fine print that can be difficult to understand. Our staff are trained on a wide range of dental insurance plans and are happy to assist you in navigating your plan wherever we can. If you have dental insurance through your employer, it will be beneficial to consult with your Human Resources or an Employee Benefits Coordinator since they may have detailed knowledge about your specific coverage.
Our dental clinic accepts the insurances listed below, and more:
Types of Dental Insurance
Dental Insurance isn’t technically insurance (a payment to cover the cost of a loss) at all. It is actually a money benefit typically provided by an employer to help their employees pay for routine dental treatment. It is a contract between your employer and a dental insurance company. The benefits that you will receive are based on the terms of the contract that were negotiated between your employer and the dental insurance company rather than your dental clinic.
The goal of most dental insurance policies is to provide only basic care for specific dental services. It has benefited many patients over the years. However, those benefits have not kept up with the cost of dental care over the last 30 years and the benefits provided may not always align with the treatment you need to achieve high quality oral health.
Some plans are better than others. Currently, there are three main types:
Traditional / Indemnity Dental Insurance – These were the original dental benefits plans and are the best type if given a choice. Patients with these plans can choose their own dentist.
PPO – Preferred Provider Organization – These provide dentistry through contracted dentists who agree to accept lower fees. Patients can choose their own dentist but may pay more for care from a non-preferred provider.
HMO – Health Maintenance Organization – Minimum dentistry if provided through contracted dentists who agree to small monthly capitation payments for each employee/patient regardless of whether services are performed or not. Patients can go to any dentist but are restricted to a list of designated providers if they want to use their dental benefits.
To summarize, patients can go to any dentist regardless of their coverage status, and there is no insurance plan that covers all dental expenses. Some companies pay fixed allowances for certain procedures and others pay a percentage of the charge. It is the patient’s responsibility to pay any deductible amount, co-insurance, or any other balance not paid for by their insurance company.
With sweeping changes on the horizon due to new health care legislations, we could be faced with even more changes to how dental insurance works. With so many limitations constant changes in dental insurance, Orchid Dental is committed to working with you to help you navigate the confusions and provide you with the quality dental care you deserve.
